Hello and welcome to my blog which details the design, development and manufacture of the RoboCrab. Undertaken as apart of the 1Yr PGCE Engineering course at Sheffield Hallam University, this skills enhancement project aims to encourage the development of a variety of different skills to produce a mechanical creature according to the following design brief:
Using the Genie E18 Peripheral Interface Control (PIC) circuits you have been working with as a starting point, you are required to design, manufacture and program an animated mechanical device based on your research into the way creatures move. Your practical outcome must be visually dynamic, demonstrating effective use of CAM. There is opportunity to enhance the function of the device through the development of its capability to sense obstructions and manoeuvre around them. The prototype product should be manufactured using CAM equipment (e.g laser cutter, Fused Deposition Modeller, CNC Router, sublimation printer etc) as the principal means of production.
